Porcelain veneers are ultra-thin shells of ceramic material, which are bonded to
the front side of a tooth to mask imperfections and discolorations, or to improve
a smile. Wafer-thin porcelain veneers have the color, translucency and surface
texture of real tooth enamel. Highly resistant and long lasting, they offer an
esthetically pleasing naturalness that is unsurpassed by other restorative options.
Porcelain veneers are used to close gaps in teeth, fix chipped teeth, improve a
gummy smile, lengthen short teeth, and improve your overall smile. Porcelain
veneers can be the ultimate confidence boost for anyone unhappy with their smile.
Procedure
At the initial visit impressions are made and the desired outcome is discussed
with you in detail. Photographs are taken for additional analysis. The impressions
are sent to the laboratory for a diagnostic wax-up which will enable you to see what
the final veneer will look like before the treatment begins.
At the next visit you will be
able to see the wax-up and discuss any additional changes that need to be made.
Once a final result is agreed upon, the teeth are prepared for the veneers by
removing a minimal amount of enamel from the front surface of the tooth. The teeth
are impressed once again and the impression is sent to a laboratory (ceramist) for
fabrication of the veneers. Your teeth will be temporized using the diagnostic wax-up
which will enable you to get used to the new shape and look of your teeth while the
permanent veneers are fabricated.
The final appointment is a try-in where the fit and
appearance of the veneers are checked intraorally. Once you are satisfied with your
veneers, they are bonded to the teeth. The result is a durable, beautiful restoration
and a winning smile.
